At the start of the match, India bolted out onto attack and was awarded a penalty corner in the 2nd minute of play. While India did not score off this penalty corner, they had possession throughout much of the first half. Thus, unable to go far into their attacking side New Zealand had few scoring opportunities. After a couple more penalty corners, India finally managed a goal in the 25th minute off a hard blast from the right and into the left corner by #28 Rani Devi. In the final minutes of the first half, New Zealand had scoring chances, but faced a staunch Indian defense, which kept India’s 1-0 lead at the half. New Zealand had more possession in the second half and a result, had more attacking opportunities, but despite numerous penalty corners could not score. In the final minutes, New Zealand pulled their keeper and inserted a kicking back. India, however, capitalized off this strategy and Devi scored again in the 69th minute, netting her seventh goal of the tournament to secure India’s 9th place finish in the 2009 BDO Junior World Cup with their 2-0 win over New Zealand, who finished in 10th place.

Towards the end of the half, each team failed to take advantage of a couple more penalty corner opportunities.

Pool B : Argentina, Germany, Lithuania, South Africa.

Argentina 1-2 Germany
The first game of the tournament kicked off with a 2-1 win by Germany. The women hit the field with nervous energy and Argentina had the ball on Germany's side the majority of the first half. It was a game of missed opportunities them with six corners and no goals. Argentina used their speed to breakaway down the field while Germany's technical defensive skills kept the ball out of the goal.

South Africa
3-2 Lithuania
It was a close match for the women of South Africa and Lithuania. South Africa captured the win 3-2 with one minute left in the second game of the tournament. Both teams struggled with controlling the ball in the first half but #8 Ernesta Kalinauskaite of Lithuania scored the first goal in the 7th minute. Shortly after #13, Catherine Mcnulty of South Africa responded with a center hit into the goal to tie up the game.

Lithuania 0-4 Argentina
The 13th match of the tournament started off shaky, but the second half showcased the flair and speed that the Argentina women have to offer. Lithuania was able to hold them off until the very last minute of the first half when Captain Victoria Zuloaga drove the ball in off a penalty corner. It took Argentina 7 corners before they were able to convert.

Germany 4-2 South Africa

The second Pool B match of the 2009 Junior Women’s World Cup was between South Africa and Germany. Both teams were coming off one-goal wins (against Lithuania 3-2 and 2-1 over Argentina, respectively) and looking to further assert themselves in Pool B. Germany started off the first half looking as if they had sound control over South Africa and had a series of penalty corners; one of which was finally converted to a goal in the 18th minute by Germany’s #8 Pia Grambusch. South Africa did not retreat and immediately came back, with #12, Kerry Pearton, scoring off a field goal almost a minute later. Exciting play ensued back and forth with neither team able to take full control of the game flow. At the end of the first half, however, Germany scored a thrilling field goal to enter halftime with the advantage.

South Africa 0-5 Argentina

Argentina came out on top today and shut out South Africa 5-0 for their second win of the tournament.

The score shows the offensive skills of the Argentines but they also proved themselves to be a formidable defense. As South Africa put on the pressure, the strikers just couldn’t get through the blue and white wall.

In the first half, Argentina dominated in the circle and scored off of two penalty corners. In the second half, South Africa came out strong, but the Argentines brought the action right back using their usual speed and agility. In the 50th minute, Macarena Rojas dribbled down the left side and drove it in the goal.

After the 3rd goal, the South Africans put in a new goalkeeper, but the Argentines fired back and #2, Delfina Marino scored the fourth goal. With two minutes remaining, #9, Carla Dupuy dribbled around the goalie and scored the fifth and final goal of the ga
